Lectio Divina for a Sunday
"Lectio
Divina" literally means "divine reading." Put simply, it is a way of
reading Scripture that takes a short passage (1-3 verses) and meditates
on their words for anytime from 5 minutes to several hours. The
definition of ‘meditate’ is
to reflect or engage in thought Choose a short passage and spend time
reading over it slowly
(even if it is a well-known passage). Reflect on the deep power that the
words
have and how they relate to your life. Allow it to evoke memories,
longings, dreams and loves. What may God be saying to you through
the passage?
Some passages to consider:
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. (Psalm 23:1-3)
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears,[a] we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (I John 3: 1-3)
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (II Cor. 4: 6-7)
